Assessments
SRC Radio Course
-1 Day RYA course/exam.
·
This RYA Radio Course covers subjects relating to V.H.F., G.M.D.S.S. and D.S.C.,
hopefully allowing you to achieve the standard necessary to pass the ongoing
assessments and written exam at the end of the day. The course is conducted
over 8 hours and is very intensive - requiring attendees to do advance
preparation in certain areas - VHF Channel allocation, voice procedure,
Distress, Urgency, Safety and Phonetic alphabet. The course will concentrate on
Distress/Urgency issues, the Global Maritime Distress Safety System and Digital
Selective Calling, with Radio and DSC simulators for hands on practice.
You
will be required to complete an RYA Assessment application with Exam Admin fee
and passport size photograph.
- If you already hold a VHF Restricted Operators
Certificate and wish to upgrade to
the GMDSS / DSC Module 2, you can do a 3 hour Update Course covering these topics, leading to a Short Range Certificate.
You
must bring your existing non-GMDSS radio Certificate of Competence as well as
the Exam fee and a passport size photograph.

Short Range Certificate - authorises the holder to use a radio telephone on the VHF
International frequencies of the Maritime Mobile band including channel 70 for
digital selective calling. The SRC is intended for use in vessels of under 300
GRT which voluntarily fit GMDSS equipment.
