SOUTH EAST CRUISING SCHOOL

Sail training from Wicklow to all corners of the Irish Sea and beyond.........

A Little bit about us

Charlie plots a course in the Canaries

CHARLIE KAVANAGH is an RYA/ISA Yachtmaster Instructor/Examiner with over 25 years experience in various boats, has competed in 2 Round Irelands, and clocked up over 20,000 cruising/racing miles. He has been running SOUTH EAST CRUISING SCHOOL since 1997 from Wicklow Harbour, and is successful in getting his students up to the ISA level required, i.e. Competent Crew, Day & Coastal Skipper and Yachtmaster Offshore. Also, his Winter Night classes are very popular, spread from Dublin to Wexford, covering ISA Theory (Introduction to Navigation up to Yachtmaster Offshore) and 1 Day RYA SRC(VHF/DSC) courses. We now offer the latest ISA Certificate - the I.C.C. (International Certificate of Competence) - generally needed as a minimum requirement to Charter abroad.

Saltee Dog exits Wicklow Harbour en-route to Wales"

Saltee Dog" is a Sadler 32' ('79) Cruiser/Racer, with comfortable accommodation for 5 in two cabins, 30HP Waramota diesel, wheel steering, GPS, Log, Depthsounder, Liferaft, Lifejackets and usual safety gear. She is a very safe sea friendly boat, spacious for her size and easy to handle for beginners and experienced alike, despite her advancing years.

TLC is his speciality - you'll love him

Toesun snuggles in!

Toesun is Peppers replacement and still has to properly find his sea legs. He is a lovable mutt, not in his predecessors league yet but learning fast. Hopefully, he will be a good sea mate on board - give him a chance to prove himself. I expect he will be joining most trips.

There'll never be another Pepper - he was the King PEPPER (died 4/8/03 R.I.P.) was the Schools mascot and was also a keen cruising "sailor" - who used to join the crew most weeks, to ensure no scraps go to waste. He was A real SALTY DOG. Read his story by clicking on -> PEPPER .

THE OFFICE will be manned occasionally during the season - I will deal with phone enquiries as is convenient from the boat. This might lessen the service to you, making it a little more awkward, due to training considerations and unpredictable reception - C.5 days should be the longest delay in responding to your enquiry - all going well. Please understand it can be difficult if students are under instruction for me to take calls. Click here for SPECIALS.

Once upon a time in a parallel universe, many years ago, my lookalike worked for the Bank of Ireland and some of those colleagues got together to celebrate their time as Bankers in Ashford House in late 2006 - check out these photos.

Webmasters - please check here for specs, if you would like to carry my banner (to be agreed in advance with me).

Wicklow Harbour - home to the biannual Round Ireland - Next Race 1st July 2006
