NEWSLETTER 1.04

RYA Yachtmaster of 2003

  ..............

Ciaran Doyle, Wicklow - an '03 theory student of South East Cruising School - was nominated by the RNLI for the above award. He had successfully completed his YM Power exam in 2003 and was the 1st ever RNLI and also 1st Irish nominee for this award. HRH Anne Windsor made the presentation at the 2004 London Boat Show, but unfortunately Ciaran lost out in the end to a young yachting lass (see photos). Two more of Ciarans colleagues from the Wicklow RNLI station (also 2003 theory S.E.C.S. students) successfully achieved their Yachtmaster Power Certs. Congratulations to Ciaran, Tommy Mc Aulay and Nicky Keogh.

GREENCOASTS CHARTER '04

Our now annual pilgrimage to the Canary sunshine in January (3rd/10th) was a resounding success. We were based in Pta Mogan, Gran Canaria and had 10 customers on 2 Oceanis 411's. We visited La Gomera, Tenerife (briefly) and G. C. sailing c.250 miles in some very exciting conditions (see photo left). Everybody agreed the night passage back to G. C., with full moon and beautiful stars was the sailing highlight.

Also, we had fabulous sightings of Pilot whales sitting on the surface, posing for us. The main reason for such a good feeling was mainly down to one man - John Ahern and his trusty banjo!! Most nights a singsong or party got going thanks to his plucking skills. Some of the gang even composed a ballad in his honour. The meals ashore might have emptied the pockets, but what wonderful food we had. Roll on Easter (possibly 1 or 2 places?) and January 2005 - book early!

Greencoasts Charter is a joint venture between South East Cruising School and Celtic Ventures Sea School - contact Egon on 0402 39418 / celticventures@eircom.net / www.celticventures.com or click here - GREENCOASTS

Toesun makes his debut this season - not PEPPER , but he is a loveable character. Lets hope he finds his sea legs early in 2004.
