1 week of Adventure Sailing in the Saronic Gulf West of Athens
to the Peloponnese, with its many Historic and Homeric sites to visit.
Less exciting sailing wise than the Aegean to the East, these are popular
cruising waters with loads of quaint little harbours and anchorages to
whet the appetite of beginner and improver sailors of all ages. The islands
of Hydra, Spetses and Poros are well worth a visit and many other interesting
destinations besides. Ulysses woz 'ere!
The Grecian waters of the Aegean Sea are famous for their wonderful islands, scenic harbours, friendly people, historic sites and the setting for Homers epic "The Odyssey", charting Odysseus' (Ulysses) 10 year voyage of adventure returning from the Trojan War (the subject of "The Iliad" by the same author). On our trip you will be visiting some of the early settlements of what we now know as Western Civilisation, an area steeped in real history. Turkey also played its part in the dawn of civilisation and has many wonderful historic sites. We could explore the Saronic Gulf island groups and possibly the southern coast of Greece amongst other options.

Our 1 week Sailing Adventure will be a mix of longish and short legs, visiting islands/sites as tourists along the way. The winds tend to be less strong than in the neighbouring Aegean, which we have found to be very testing over the last few years. Beginners need to have a good sense of adventure and it would be useful if some prior experience in sailing was had by intending trainees.
As this area is non-tidal, we cannot issue Certificates for Day Skipper, but the experience gained should be invaluable for any improving sailors - berthing, pilotage, Mediterranean mooring, anchoring, exciting sailing conditions and decision making all while living aboard with your fellow crew.
